Dear Miles,

Please find attached some information on our company TOTEM Visual Communications that could be of interest and help to the stall holders and small business at Kinsale Farmers Market, would you mind passing this information on to them?

Totem Visual Communications are an award winning graphic design company based in Dungarvan. We have lots of experience in the food and hospitality sector and have created new work for many Irish companies and businesses. In fact, you may already have seen our work, clients include, Waterford Festival of Food, The Tannery, The Cliff House Hotel, Nude Food, Alan Dalton Goldsmith to name a few. You can check out our work on www.totem.ie

No doubt you are very busy running your business. Too busy perhaps, to take a little time to make sure your stall is well branded and your packaging and marketing information is working for you? It may not be high on the list of priorities, but it’s still important.

This is where we can help.

Our work has helped many of our clients bring a new vibrancy to their offering and has made sure that their brand is the one that gets noticed. Simple things like making sure your stall is well designed, keeping your signage at eye level, having your name and business on your bags and packaging will all help to make sure that every opportunity counts. If people remember who you are and where you are then all your happy customers will be able to recommend you to their friends. Of course it’s all basic stuff – but it needs to be right.

If you would like to have a chat with us about how small things can make a big difference, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We would be delighted to hear from you.

Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have a query or just want to chat.

Traders asked

to foot the bill for

permanent site

for Kinsale market

By TOM FITZPATRICK__________

Kinsale Town Council Report

KINSALE farmers' market traders will be asked to foot the bill for a new permanent home in the town.

Town councillors last night i insisted they would not be left to finance a new market site after three options for a new ,home were presented at the monthly council meeting.

The Kinsale Farmers'Market, which runs every Tuesday, was moved from its base on Short Quay to the Kin-sale College of Further Education on the Bandon Road due to health and safety concerns more than a month ago. Options for a new home for the market were outlined by council officials, and included three sites where work would cost between €20,000 and €40,500 to make the individual site viable for a market.

The three venues decided on by council officials were: the Back Glen, which would cost €40,500 in council work; Long Quay, which would cost

€27,000 and the St Multose car park, which would cost €20,000.

However, town manager Mary Ryan warned that if councillors were to choose the -cheapest option, St Multose car park, it may only be a short-term solution.

Ms Ryan said that she proposed to issue individual li-

censes to stall holders to recoup the costs over the next two to three years.

The Glen site would have room for 17 stalls; The Long Quay site room for 30 stalls and the St Multose car park would have room for 25 stalls.

Councillors will be asked to support one of the three sites at the next council meeting.

Dear Sirs ,
I would like to point out that I was not consulted about the engineers report submitted to you at the last council meeting .
I have had a meeting with the Town clerk, and Mr Rob Andrews to discuss the safety issue arising in the Short Quay , where it was decided that the issues could be easily dealt with , at no cost to the Council or to the market . The rent was increased by 500 euros per annum to cover the rubbish and the time that Rob Andrew would spend sorting out the safety issues with me .
I was given the impression that we would be in the Town Park until Mid -May and then back in the Short Quay for 3 months , after the Drainage work , which was the reason given by Mary Ryan for us being moved in the first place .

At the recent meeting of the council , 3 other sites were suggested, none of which are viable , and which would result in the Market failing in a matter of weeks , which may be the intention of some of the businesses in Kinsale.

It was also suggested by Mary Ryan , that she prefer to deal direct with the stall-holders over the license , without paying anyone to run the market.
I would like to point out the consequences of such a move . The stall-holders have all intimated to me that if the market is to be moved or continually messed about with , they would prefer to trade on a Wednesday , which is as you know a free trading day in the entirety of the town .

This would result in a Bantry type situation of traders setting up where ever they wished ,and selling what ever they wished, and I doubt that the casual traders licensed for a Wednesday would feel the need to renew their licenses!

I trust you will consider these issues when being asked to destroy the best tourist attraction in Kinsale , and my livelihood as well.

Yours sincerely Miles Cattell

HI All

Our new website is up and running at www.marketguide.ie. We’d appreciate if you could have a look at it and give us your comments. There are some things we need to tweak which will be done over the next week or so.

Please see if your markets are mentioned and if the information given is correct. If not please let us know so that we can make any correction. You’ll also notice you can put in your own advertisements to sell your products or other items.

Any info for the NEWS column is also appreciated.

The bid we made to host the 2010 International Retail Market Conference was successful. We made our bid on the basis that Irish local authorities are less helpful than their European counterparts in the allocation of public space for use as markets. With that in mind we requested the assistance of the World Union of Wholesale and Retail Markets to persuade our local authorities to behave differently. Amsterdam and Barcelona also bid so we were delighted when we succeeded.
